Kick off the 2023/24 ski season this November in New York City for a unique four-day event, hosted by the Austrian National Tourist Office, at Project Farmhouse, just minutes from Union Square.
You’re invited! Experience Austria’s winter at the Manhattan pop-up
Austria comes to New York City from November 9-12 to showcase some of the untold stories of Austria’s renowned mountain resorts. The pop-up will be open daily, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Project Farmhouse, a state-of-the-art sustainability center and event space near Union Square in Manhattan. This is a great opportunity to get a taste of Austria as you start to plan a winter getaway there.
- Visitors will learn about Austria’s 130-year ski legacy and discover with a multi-media exhibit how Austria’s most iconic ski resorts are striving for a sustainable future for the next-generation skier.

Celebrating Austria’s iconic mountain destinations
Austria’s spectacular alpine landscapes have long been a magnet for winter sports enthusiasts from around the world. The Arlberg region, Kitzbühel, Zell am See-Kaprun, Snow Space Salzburg, and Seefeld, are just a few of Austria’s renowned ski resorts, where world-class ski slopes, stunning mountainous landscapes, and alpine charm and hospitality combine for an unparalleled ski experience.
Austria’s ski communities have naturally grown from the small communities they began as, with many of the top hotels, restaurants, and shops run by the same families that founded them decades ago. As such, Austria’s ski destinations are no strangers to the challenges that face mountain destinations, and they’ve risen to meet them.
Sustainability efforts have taken root across Austria. The Arlberg region, the fifth largest ski resort in the world, and home to the five distinct villages of St. Anton, Lech, Zürs, St. Christoph, and Stuben, has been a beacon of sustainability. Among the region’s incredible sustainability efforts is the independent hydroelectric power supply at Kartellsee, which has resulted in St. Anton being self-reliant in electricity supply since 2006. In Lech Zürs, its sustainability initiatives have included strict building regulations, such as maintaining a limit of 10,000 guest beds. Additionally, its ski resort has been relying entirely on hydropower since 2020.
Snow Space Salzburg, comprising the three adjoining ski resorts of Flachau, Wagrain, and St. Johann-Alpendorf in the Salzburg province, is on a mission to become carbon-neutral by the 2025/26 ski season. Zell am See-Kaprun, in the Salzburger Land, earned the UNWTO sustainability seal for “Best Tourism Villages” because of its sustainability initiatives. And Region Seefeld, above the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck, is the first destination to receive the Austrian Ecolabel because of its sustainability practices.
These are just a sampling of the destinations and stories that’ll be told over four days in Manhattan at this unique New York City pop-up that celebrates the magic of winter in Austria.
